Ringtone Volume Settings

Add a New Browser Tab
Comparing gadget prices or checking multiple news articles usually means closing your current page just to open another one. On Huawei phones the Browser app lets you keep the page you are on running in the background while you open a fresh tab for research. Many users overlook this because the tab controls sit in a spot that is easy to miss on first use.
Set Default Apps
If your Huawei phone keeps asking which app to use every time you tap a link or open a song file, no default app is assigned for that action yet. EMUI shows this picker whenever several apps can handle the same task and none of them has been set as the standard. Once you pick a permanent default, the picker disappears and the chosen app opens automatically.

When a text comes in while you are working on your laptop, reaching for the Huawei phone every time gets old fast. Messages for web only works once the phone and the browser tab have been linked through a QR code scan, and that pairing session can drop if the phone loses network or the browser tab closes. If the scanner window on the computer stays blank or the code never gets recognized, the two devices are usually not on the same Wi-Fi network or the phone camera has not been given permission.
Remove an Assigned Number from Speed Dial
When every speed dial slot on your Huawei phone is already taken, adding a new contact means one of the existing entries has to go first. Many users only find the option to change or delete a slot after the assigned number, not the contact itself, gets edited.
Set Screen Timeout
If your Huawei display locks itself just seconds after you stop tapping it, or stays lit far too long and drains the battery, the Sleep setting is probably not matched to how you use the phone. This value decides when the screen goes into standby, anywhere from 15 seconds to 10 minutes of inactivity. If a password, PIN, or fingerprint is active as the unlock method, every standby also means unlocking again for the next tap.
Pin the Keyboard to One Side
Typing one-handed on a large Huawei phone usually means stretching your thumb across the full keyboard width, which is slow and often triggers typos. Change Default Search Engine
If every search on your Huawei phone routes through Google, you might want to switch to Bing or Qwant instead. The Browser app ships with Google as the default provider, and there is no shortcut for this on the home screen or in the quick settings. Many users assume the engine is locked and give up before finding the actual option.
Delete Facial Data
If Face Recognition keeps unlocking your Huawei phone with an old look or you simply want to switch face unlock off, deleting the stored facial data solves it in one step. This also removes any alternate appearance you registered alongside your main face profile. The setting is separate from your PIN or fingerprint, so those stay untouched.
Adjust Colour Mode & Temperature
If your Huawei display looks too cold and bluish, or colours seem flat and washed out, the colour mode and temperature are likely stuck on a default that does not suit you. Huawei lets you switch between a neutral 'Normal' look and a punchier 'Vivid' mode, and you can fine-tune the warmth of the screen yourself instead of relying on the factory setting.
Enable or Disable Smart Lock
If your Huawei phone keeps locking every time you pick it up at home or on a walk, Smart Lock (also called Smart Unlock) might be turned off or set up wrong. The feature relies on signals like On-body detection, Trusted places or Trusted devices to decide when the screen can skip the lock screen. When one of those signals is misconfigured, your phone either stays unlocked too long or locks itself constantly for no reason.
Delete a Contact Group
If a contact group on your Huawei phone is outdated or no longer needed, you can remove it without losing the contacts inside it. Deleting a group only removes the grouping itself, not the people stored in your contact list. This is useful when you organized contacts for a one-off event or project and want a cleaner overview in the Contacts app.
Set Up Private DNS
On public or shared Wi-Fi, every domain your phone looks up travels as plain text, letting the network operator or anyone else on the connection see which sites you visit. Huawei phones ship with private DNS switched off by default, so this exposure continues until you activate an encrypted resolver. Turning it on requires the exact hostname of a DNS provider, not just an IP address.
Uninstall an App
On some Huawei phones every app icon sits right on the home screen, on others they are hidden inside a separate app drawer. Whether you tap and hold the icon on the home screen or inside the drawer, the wrong starting point often makes the Uninstall option seem missing. The layout your phone uses depends on the App drawer setting, not on the app itself.
Enable or Disable Wi-Fi Direct
Trying to send a photo or stream a video straight from your Huawei phone to a TV or Fire TV Stick only works if Wi-Fi Direct is active. When the toggle stays greyed out or nearby devices simply do not show up, the feature is usually switched off or hidden inside the Wi-Fi menu. Both devices also need to sit on the same Wi-Fi network before a direct transfer can start.
Enable or Disable Data Roaming
If your Huawei phone locks onto a foreign or unfamiliar network abroad, mobile data simply stops working until roaming is switched on. Once you activate it, the phone can use a foreign carrier's mobile network, and that access almost always comes with extra charges from your provider. Leaving roaming off protects you from surprise bills but also blocks data, calls, and messages on networks outside your home carrier.
Search Within a Conversation
Scrolling through a long chat to find one specific message wastes time, especially when the conversation stretches back months. Huawei's Messages app includes a built-in search that scans a single conversation for a keyword or phrase and highlights every match in yellow. You can then jump between hits with dedicated back and forward buttons instead of scrolling manually.
Enable or Disable Dark Mode
Bright white screens can feel harsh at night or in dim rooms, and many Huawei users want a darker interface instead. Dark mode is meant to reduce that glare, ease eye strain, and cut down on battery use, but it is not always obvious where the toggle sits or why it seems to have no effect in some apps. If your screen still looks light after a system update or a reset, the setting has likely been switched back to its default.
Enable or Disable Ultra Power Saving Mode
When your Huawei phone switches into a stripped-down home screen with only a handful of apps, Ultra Power Saving mode is likely active. This function shuts down background processes and blocks most apps to stretch the remaining battery as far as possible. If you did not turn it on yourself, a low-battery trigger or an accidental tap in the quick start bar is usually the cause.
Add Emergency Information
If paramedics or first responders need your medical details during an emergency, they usually cannot unlock your Huawei phone to check them. Emergency information stored in Security settings solves this by staying visible on the lock screen without a passcode. Without it set up, rescue teams have no quick way to see your name, address or medical conditions.
Vibrate in Silent Mode Toggle
When your Huawei phone is set to silent, it might still buzz loudly on your desk during a meeting, or stay completely quiet even though you expect a vibration alert for calls. This behavior depends on a single Vibrate in silent mode option that many people never notice inside the sound settings. Getting it wrong means either unwanted buzzing at the wrong moment or missed calls you never felt.
Export Contacts
Huawei's Contacts app keeps the export function simple, almost too simple: there's no way to export a single contact, only the entire list at once. If you just need to back up one number, EMUI still bundles all your contacts into one VCF file before you can share or store it. That behavior often confuses people looking to transfer just a few entries.
