Huawei: Turn Colour Inversion On or Off

If colour inversion switches on by accident, a white background with black text flips to a black background with white text across the whole screen. Photos, videos and other media get affected too and can look washed out or plain wrong. This toggle sits inside the accessibility features, so it is easy to miss and just as easy to fix once you find it.

Colour Inversion auf Huawei

Colour inversion swaps every colour value on the display. A white background with black text becomes a black background with white text, and this applies system-wide, not just to one app.

The feature lives inside Accessibility on EMUI and is meant to help with light sensitivity or reading comfort in dark environments. Once active, it also touches media playback, so photos and videos can look unnatural with shifted or reversed tones.

To turn it on or off, follow this path: Open the settingsTap on Accessibility featuresTap on AccessibilityActivate or deactivate Colour inversion.

If your goal is just a darker interface rather than fully swapped colours, a dark theme is usually the better fit. Colour inversion is a blunt tool: it flips everything, including icons, wallpapers and camera previews, which is why it can look broken rather than helpful for daily use.

Switching it back off restores normal colours immediately, without a restart. If colours still look off afterwards, check whether a separate colour filter or eye comfort mode is also active in the same Accessibility section.

Frequently asked questions

Colour inversion flips every colour on the screen, including inside the gallery and camera preview. The image files themselves are not changed, so they display normally again once you turn the toggle off through Open the settingsTap on Accessibility featuresTap on AccessibilityActivate or deactivate Colour inversion.
