Oppo: Turn On or Off Double-Space Period

Typing two spaces after a word sometimes inserts a period automatically, even when you only wanted extra spacing. This happens because the Gboard text correction feature turns a double space into a full stop at the end of a sentence. If the shortcut is missing or keeps triggering unwanted periods, the option needs to be checked directly in the keyboard settings.

Double-Space Period Shortcut auf Oppo

On Oppo phones running ColorOS, the Gboard keyboard can insert a period automatically whenever you tap the space bar twice in a row. This text correction feature speeds up typing at the end of a sentence, but an accidental double tap can just as easily turn into an unwanted full stop in the middle of a word or a number.

The setting lives inside the keyboard app rather than the general phone settings, since Gboard manages its own text correction options separately from the rest of ColorOS.

To change it, go to Tap on SettingsTap on Additional settingsTap on Keyboard & input methodTap on GboardTap on Text correctionEnable or disable Double-space period.

Turning the toggle off stops the automatic period completely, so a double space simply stays a double space. Turning it on restores the shortcut for faster sentence endings.

If periods still appear unexpectedly after disabling this option, check whether a different keyboard app is active, since only Gboard uses this specific text correction setting.

Frequently asked questions

Gboard only inserts the period right after a completed word, not inside numbers or directly after other punctuation, so the effect can look inconsistent even though the setting is on.
