Oppo: Change the Screen Lock PIN, Password or Pattern

Oppo phones running Coloros separate the lock screen method from your saved fingerprints and face data. Changing the PIN, password or pattern does not touch either, as long as you use the correct menu entry instead of removing the lock screen entirely.

Go to Settings ➔ Password & biometrics ➔ Lock screen password. You will be asked to confirm your current PIN, password or pattern first, since Coloros treats this as a security-sensitive change.

Once confirmed, tap Modify password and follow the on-screen instructions. You can then pick a different unlock type - PIN, password or pattern - or keep the same type and just set a new code.

This is the option you want if you simply forgot which pattern you set, if you think someone else knows your current PIN, or if you want a longer password for better security. It is not the right path if you are locked out and cannot get past the lock screen at all - in that case you need an account-based recovery or a factory reset instead, since you have to unlock the phone first to reach these settings.
