Oppo: Change What the Volume Buttons Control

On most Oppo phones the volume rocker only adjusts media volume, so lowering a call ringtone or notification sound needs a separate step. This becomes confusing when Focus mode or Do Not Disturb still lets a loud ringtone through, because the buttons were never linked to ringer volume. Switching the button function to ringtone volume closes that gap.

Change What the Volume Buttons Control auf Oppo

By default, Coloros links the physical volume rocker to media playback only. Pressing the buttons while browsing or watching a video changes that volume, but a ringing phone or an incoming notification sound stays untouched. This split behavior is intentional: it prevents accidental muting of calls while you adjust music or video volume, but it also means many users cannot silence a ringtone quickly with the buttons alone.

To link the volume rocker to ringtone volume instead, go to Tap on SettingsTap on Sound & vibrationTap on Volume button functionChoose Media volume or Ringtone volume. Selecting Ringtone volume makes the rocker adjust the ring and notification level directly, without opening a separate slider first.

Keep media volume selected if you mostly need quick control while streaming audio or video, since switching back and forth is instant. If your main complaint is loud calls or notifications catching you off guard, ringtone volume is the better fit. Silent mode and Focus mode settings are separate from this option and still need their own toggles.

Frequently asked questions

No. Alarm volume has its own slider under Sound & vibration and is not linked to the Volume button function setting.
