Oppo: Turn Google Location History On or Off

If Google Location History stays enabled on your Oppo phone, almost every street, building and restaurant you pass gets logged with a timestamp. That data sits in your Google account, not only on the device, and keeps growing even while the screen is off. Many Oppo users only spot the tracking when they open their Google Maps timeline and see a full map of their week.

Turn On/Off Google Location History auf Oppo

Location History is a Google account feature, but Oppo added a direct shortcut in its privacy menu so you do not have to dig through the separate Google app.

Once turned on, your phone regularly sends GPS coordinates to your Google account in the background, even when no map or navigation app is open. Google uses this data to build your Maps timeline, suggest commute times and personalize local search results.

You can find the toggle under SettingsPrivacyAdvancedGoogle location historyEnable or disable Location History.

Leave the feature on if you rely on the Google Maps timeline, want automatic trip logging, or use apps that pull past location data for expense reports or fitness tracking. Turning it off stops that logging immediately, but Google Maps navigation, live traffic and Find My Device still work, since those rely on real-time location access rather than the stored history.

Switching the setting off does not delete data already collected. Existing entries stay in your Google account until you remove them manually through your Google account activity controls.

Frequently asked questions

No. Disabling the toggle under SettingsPrivacyAdvancedGoogle location history only stops new entries. Older entries stay in your Google account until you delete them separately in your Google account activity settings.
