Oppo: Fix Inaccurate Location with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Scanning

If your Oppo phone shows your location several streets away, or apps take forever to pin you down in a city, the culprit is often disabled Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning. Coloros uses nearby networks and Bluetooth signals to fine-tune GPS, even when both radios are switched off. Without this scanning, location accuracy drops noticeably indoors and between tall buildings.

Turn On/Off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Scanning for Location Accuracy auf Oppo

GPS alone struggles in dense cities, indoors, and near tall buildings because satellite signals get blocked or reflected. Coloros compensates for this with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning, a background function that checks for nearby networks and Bluetooth beacons to cross-reference your position.

This scanning works even while Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are turned off. Apps and location services still detect surrounding access points and devices, which speeds up positioning and improves accuracy, especially where satellite reception is weak.

To manage this setting, go to SettingsLocationWi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning. From there, you can turn Wi-Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning on or off independently.

Turning both on gives the most reliable location fix in urban areas and inside buildings. Turning them off saves a small amount of battery and stops apps from detecting nearby networks passively, which matters if you are concerned about privacy rather than accuracy.

If location is still off after enabling scanning, check that Location itself is active and that the app in question has full location permission. Scanning improves precision but cannot replace a disabled Location toggle or missing app permission.

Frequently asked questions

The savings are minor. Scanning runs briefly in the background, so the battery impact is far smaller than keeping Wi-Fi or Bluetooth fully connected.
