Oppo: Activate a Downloaded Keyboard in ColorOS

After installing a new keyboard app on your Oppo phone, the system keeps typing with the default keyboard instead. ColorOS keeps every input method, including downloaded keyboards and voice typing, switched off until you turn it on yourself in one central menu. Without that extra step, the new keyboard app sits on your home screen but never appears when you tap a text field.

Activate a Downloaded Keyboard auf Oppo

Installing a keyboard app from the Play Store only adds it to your device storage. ColorOS still treats it as inactive until you switch it on inside the system input settings.

All input methods on your Oppo phone, including on-screen keyboards, voice input, and any third-party keyboard app, are managed from one shared menu. This is why a freshly installed keyboard does not automatically appear as an option when you tap into a text field.

Where to activate the keyboard

Go to Tap on SettingsTap on Additional settingsTap on Keyboard & input methodTap on Manage keyboards. Find the downloaded keyboard in the list and select Enable a Keyboard, then confirm with Tap on Activate.

Once enabled, the keyboard becomes available as a switchable option, but it is not automatically set as your default. To type with it, tap the keyboard icon in the notification bar or long-press the space key while typing, then pick it from the list.

If the keyboard still does not show up after activation, check whether the app itself needs a permission grant, since some third-party keyboards request storage or microphone access on first launch.

Disabling a keyboard through the same menu removes it from the switch list without uninstalling the app, which is useful if you only want to test it temporarily.
