Oppo: Add a Recovery Email for the Privacy Password

Locked out of your app lock or private safe because you forgot the privacy password? Without a recovery email saved in advance, Oppo gives you no way to reset it. Once an address is linked, the 'Forgot password' option lets you create a new privacy password.

Set Recovery Email for Privacy Password auf Oppo

The privacy password on Oppo devices controls access to the app lock and the private safe, two independent security layers built into ColorOS. If you forget this password, ColorOS blocks entry to both locked apps and hidden files, because there is no fingerprint or face fallback for this specific lock.

A recovery email closes that gap. Once it is registered, ColorOS unlocks a 'Forgot password' option that sends a reset link, letting you set a new privacy password without wiping your private safe.

To add or change the address, go to SettingsPassword & biometricsPrivacy passwordRecovery emailEnter an Email address and tap Save. This address only handles password recovery for this feature; it is not linked to your Oppo account or any other login.

Set the recovery email while you still know your current privacy password. If you already forgot it and never added an email beforehand, the only remaining option is a factory reset, which erases the private safe content along with everything else on the device.

Skip this step only if you never use the app lock or private safe. For everyone who hides apps or files behind the privacy password, adding the recovery email is the difference between a quick reset and permanent data loss.

Frequently asked questions

Without a saved recovery email, ColorOS has no way to verify you and reset the password. The only fix left is a factory reset, which deletes the content stored in the app lock and private safe.
