Oppo: Change Personal Hotspot Name and Password

Your Oppo phone activates a personal hotspot with a generic name and a default password, which is fine for a quick test but risky for daily use. If you want other people to recognize your hotspot easily or you need a stronger password, you have to adjust these settings yourself.

Personal Hotspot: Change Name, Password and Band auf Oppo

On Oppo phones running Coloros, the personal hotspot works right after you switch it on. Android generates a default network name and password automatically, so you can share your mobile data connection without any setup.

That default configuration is fine for a one-time connection, but it is not ideal for regular use. A generic hotspot name makes it hard to spot your network among several others nearby, and a factory password is easy to guess if you share it often.

You can change every relevant option from one screen. Open SettingsConnection & sharingPersonal hotspotPersonal hotspot settings. There you set a custom network name, a new password, and other options such as visibility and frequency band, then confirm with Save.

The band setting matters if older laptops or budget devices struggle to connect. Switching from a 5 GHz-only hotspot to a dual-band or 2.4 GHz option usually fixes that.

Hidden networks improve privacy but require every device to enter the name manually before it can join, so only disable visibility if you actually need that extra step.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Every device that was using the old password loses the connection immediately after you tap Save. You need to enter the new password on each device again.
