Oppo: Change What the Volume Buttons Do in the Camera App

On Oppo phones, pressing a volume button while the Camera app is open takes a photo instead of adjusting the sound level. This happens because Coloros assigns the buttons to shutter control by default, and the same option can be switched to zoom instead.

Volume Buttons Function for Camera auf Oppo

On Oppo phones running Coloros, the volume buttons trigger the shutter as soon as the Camera app is open. This behavior comes from a dedicated camera setting, not from the general volume control in Android.

If you press the buttons to check media volume while framing a shot or filming, the phone takes a picture instead. The same setting also decides whether the buttons can be used to zoom in and out, which helps when shooting one-handed or without touching the screen.

To change the behavior, open CameraSettingsVolume button, then choose Volume, Shutter or Zoom.

Selecting Volume restores normal volume adjustment while the camera is open. Shutter keeps the default photo-capture action on the buttons. Zoom lets you use them to zoom instead, which is useful when your fingers already cover the screen for stability.

This setting only affects the camera app. It has no effect on how the volume buttons behave anywhere else on the phone, so switching between the three options carries no side effects.

Frequently asked questions

Coloros assigns the buttons to camera actions by default. Change the setting under CameraSettingsVolume button to Volume if you want normal audio control back.
