Fingerprint unlock is a biometric security method built into Realme UI that reads the unique ridge pattern of your finger to confirm your identity. Instead of typing a PIN or pattern every time you pick up your phone, you rest a finger on the sensor and the system compares it against a stored template. On most Realme models this sensor sits under the display or on the side frame as a power button, and it works alongside PIN, pattern, or password as a backup method rather than replacing them entirely.
What the feature actually secures
Fingerprint unlock does more than wake the lock screen. Once set up, the same registered fingerprint can approve app-level locks, confirm purchases in supported payment apps, and unlock private spaces such as a hidden vault or locked folder. This means a single enrollment step extends protection across several apps and system areas, not just the home screen.
Because the fingerprint template never leaves a secure, isolated part of the storage, apps and other software cannot read or export the raw scan. They only receive a yes-or-no confirmation from the system, which is why fingerprint unlock is treated as a stronger method than a simple app password.
Why the sensor sometimes misses a scan
Recognition failures are usually physical, not software problems. Sweat, lotion, water droplets, or a thick screen protector can all interfere with an under-display sensor reading the ridge pattern correctly. Cold fingers, small cuts, or pressing at an angle instead of flat also reduce accuracy. Cleaning the sensor area and the finger itself, then registering the same finger from a few different angles, usually improves long-term reliability more than re-registering repeatedly in frustration.
Registering more than one fingerprint
Realme UI supports multiple stored fingerprints on one device. This is useful for unlocking with either hand, letting a trusted family member in, or having a backup finger ready if one gets injured. Each fingerprint is stored as a separate template, so removing one does not affect the others.
Security trade-offs to keep in mind
Fingerprint unlock is convenient, but it is not immune to every risk. A very high-quality fake print or a forced unlock while you are asleep or unconscious are known limitations of any fingerprint system, not just Realme's. For that reason, a strong backup PIN or password still matters, since the device falls back to it after a restart or after too many failed scans. Disabling fingerprint unlock temporarily also makes sense before lending the phone to someone else or handing it in for repair.
Keeping the feature reliable over time
Sensor accuracy can drift slightly with software updates, screen protector changes, or general wear. Re-registering a fingerprint after installing a new screen protector, or adding it fresh if scans feel slower than before, resolves most drift-related issues without needing to reset anything else on the device.
