Personal Hotspot is a built-in Android feature that lets a Realme phone act as a small Wi-Fi router. Instead of connecting a laptop, tablet, smartwatch or another phone to a fixed network, that device connects to your phone and uses its mobile data connection instead.
This is useful when you travel, when a cafe or office network is unavailable, or when a public Wi-Fi network has restrictions you want to avoid. It also helps in situations where you trust your own connection more than an open network, since a hotspot you control is generally safer than an unsecured public one.
What Personal Hotspot actually does
When you turn on the hotspot, your phone creates a private Wi-Fi network with its own name (SSID) and password. Any device within range can join that network the same way it would join a home router, then browse, stream or download through your mobile data plan.
Realme UI shows how many devices are currently connected and usually lets you see or limit that number. This prevents strangers from piggybacking on your data if they somehow guess the password, and it keeps performance predictable when several devices share the same connection.
Data usage and speed considerations
Every byte sent through the hotspot counts against your mobile data allowance, not against the connected device's own plan. Streaming video, large downloads or software updates on a connected laptop can use up a data package fast, so keeping an eye on usage matters more here than on a normal Wi-Fi connection.
Speed depends on your mobile signal, not on the hotspot feature itself. A weak mobile signal will produce a slow hotspot even if the connected device is capable of much faster Wi-Fi.
Security and access control
Realme UI protects the hotspot with a password by default, and you can usually change the network name and password to something memorable but hard to guess. Some versions also offer an option to require manual approval before a new device joins, which is worth using in busy public places.
It is good practice to change the default hotspot password occasionally, especially if you have shared it with people outside your household, to avoid unknown devices reconnecting later without your knowledge.
Battery and background behavior
Running a hotspot keeps the mobile radio and Wi-Fi radio active at the same time, which increases battery drain compared to normal use. Many phones automatically switch off the hotspot after a period without connected devices, so you may need to turn it back on if you step away for a while.
If you use the hotspot regularly, keeping the phone connected to a charger during longer sessions avoids unexpected shutdowns from low battery.
Personal Hotspot works well as an occasional backup connection rather than a permanent replacement for a fixed Wi-Fi network, mainly because of the data cost and battery impact involved.
