Print Service is the part of Android that connects your Realme phone to a physical printer. It does not print anything by itself. Instead, it acts as a bridge between an app's Print command and a printer driver, so any app with a share or print option can send a document, photo, or page to a printer on the same network.
On a stock Realme phone running Realme UI, this bridge is empty by default. You need at least one print plugin installed, either from the printer manufacturer (Google Print Service is the common fallback for many brands) or a standard like Mopria, which many printer makers support without a dedicated app. Without a plugin, the print menu in any app will show no available printers, even if a printer is switched on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
What Print Service Actually Does
Once a plugin is enabled, Print Service scans your local network for compatible printers and lists them whenever you tap Print inside an app. It also remembers printers you have used before, so repeat print jobs are quicker to set up. Some plugins add extra controls, such as paper size, color mode, or duplex printing, directly inside the standard Android print dialog.
This system-level setup means the feature works the same way across most apps: Gallery, Chrome, Google Drive, and many document viewers all use the same print dialog and the same list of available printers, because they all rely on Print Service in the background.
When You Actually Need to Touch This Setting
Most people only interact with Print Service once, right after buying a new printer or trying to print for the first time. Typical situations include:
- Printing boarding passes, tickets, or PDFs saved on the phone
- Printing photos directly from the Gallery app
- Printing a web page or an email attachment without transferring it to a computer first
- Setting up a new printer that was not recognized automatically
If a printer that used to work suddenly disappears from the list, the plugin itself is the usual suspect, not the phone's Wi-Fi connection. Print Service plugins can be disabled after a system update, or a printer's IP address on the network may have changed.
Practical Tips
Keep only the plugins you actually need active. Having several printer plugins enabled at once can slow down the scan and sometimes causes duplicate or ghost entries in the printer list.
Cloud-based or wireless-only printers may need their own manufacturer app running in the background even after the plugin is set up, since some brands split setup and printing between two separate apps.
If a printer only appears over USB, Print Service will not help. That connection type is handled separately from the wireless print plugins described here, and support varies by printer model.
