Manage Full Screen App Display
When an app stretches oddly across the screen or crops content at the top and bottom, Samsung's full screen scaling is usually the reason. You cannot switch off full screen display system-wide, since it is tied to the display aspect ratio itself. What you can do is tell individual apps to render in the older, non-stretched format instead. This mainly affects apps that were never updated for taller Samsung displays and end up with distorted buttons or misplaced UI elements.
Allow or Block Apps for Edge Lighting
Edge Lighting only reacts to the Messages app by default, so notifications from other apps never trigger the curved glow. If a supported app is missing from the list, it stays invisible on the edge screen even with its own alerts turned on. You can pick exactly which apps light up the edge or switch on a setting that covers all of them at once.
Remove Apps from a Folder
Dragging one app at a time out of a crowded folder gets tedious fast, especially when a folder holds ten or more icons. Samsung's One UI does not offer a way to select several apps at once and pull them all out together. If you are trying to clean up a folder quickly, this one-by-one limitation slows the process down noticeably.
Clear App Data (Reset an App)
If an app keeps glitching, shows outdated information, or you want to sign out completely without uninstalling it, clearing its stored data usually fixes this. This removes login details, cached files, and any saved content like messages or documents, putting the app back to its state right after installation. Clearing app data is different from just clearing the cache and cannot be undone.
Uninstall an App
An app you no longer use keeps taking up storage space and might still run background processes on your Samsung phone. Deleting it through the Google Play Store removes the app itself, but the built-in Settings menu gives you a direct way to remove it along with its stored data. Once removed, any saved data, logins, or app files linked to that app are gone for good.
Force Stop an App
When an app on your Samsung phone stops responding, swiping it away from the recent apps overview usually does not help. That gesture only tells the app to wrap up background tasks, it does not kill a stuck process. If a software glitch is blocking the app, it keeps running in the background, drains battery, or leaves the screen frozen.
Manage Special App Access Permissions
An app that keeps closing in the background or a security tool that won't uninstall usually points to a special access permission, not a basic one. Samsung handles settings like battery optimization or device admin rights per app, separate from the standard permissions for storage or contacts. These special accesses sit in their own menu and often get overlooked when troubleshooting.
Restore Default App Icons
Once you've applied a custom icon pack on your Samsung phone, there's no toggle in the app settings or launcher menu to bring icons back to their original look. The only place that reset lives is inside the Themes app, which most people never open again after installing a theme or icon set.
Install an App from the Google Play Store
On a Samsung phone you can install apps through the Google Play Store or through Samsung's own Galaxy Store, and it is not always obvious which one to use for a given app. The Play Store covers most mainstream apps, while some Samsung-specific tools only show up in the Galaxy Store. Picking the wrong store or getting stuck on the search results is the most common reason an install never starts.
Allow or Restrict Background Activity of Apps
If your Samsung phone loses battery fast even when you barely touch certain apps, background activity is often the reason. Some apps keep syncing, refreshing content or checking location while you are not using them, which quietly drains the battery between charges. You can turn this off for individual apps without disabling their notifications completely.
Turn Automatic App Updates On or Off
When apps update themselves in the background without asking, mobile data can disappear fast and storage fills up overnight. On Samsung phones this behavior comes from a Play Store setting, not a system-wide toggle, so it is easy to miss if you are looking in the wrong menu. If you want full control over when apps get new versions, this setting needs to be changed directly inside the Play Store app.
Change Default Apps
If tapping a link always opens the wrong browser, or a newly installed messaging app never launches automatically, a leftover default app assignment is still active. Samsung keeps separate default apps for actions like opening links, sending texts or making calls, and a fresh install does not take over automatically. Until you reassign it, the old app keeps handling those actions.
