Samsung: Turn Off Location Tags on Photos and Videos

Every photo or video you shoot with the Samsung Camera app can quietly attach your exact GPS coordinates to the file. Share that picture online or send it to someone, and the location data travels with it, revealing exactly where it was taken. Most people only notice this after a photo has already exposed a home address or workplace.

Turn Location Tags On or Off for Photos and Videos auf Samsung

Samsung phones ship with location tags switched on in the Camera app. Every time you take a photo or record a video, the camera checks your network and GPS connection and writes the coordinates directly into the file's metadata. That is convenient in Gallery, where you can sort memories by place, but it also means the exact location becomes visible to anyone who receives or downloads the file.

This matters most when you share images through messaging apps, cloud storage, or social platforms that do not strip metadata automatically. A photo posted from home or work can expose that address without you realizing it. Turning off geotagging stops new photos and videos from recording location data, but it does not remove tags already saved on older files.

Where to change it

Open Tap on CameraTap on SettingsEnable or disable Location tags. Switching it off applies immediately to every photo and video taken afterward.

Leave geotagging on if you rely on location-based sorting in Gallery or use apps that organize your photos by place. Turn it off before shooting anything you plan to share publicly, especially images taken at home, at work, or around children.

Frequently asked questions

No. Disabling location tags in CameraSettings only stops new photos and videos from being tagged. Existing files keep whatever location data was recorded when they were captured.
