Samsung: Send a File via Wi-Fi Direct

Sending a large video or a batch of photos over Bluetooth on your Samsung phone can take minutes, and pairing devices first adds another step. Wi-Fi Direct skips the pairing process entirely and moves data at much higher speed, which matters when the recipient device is nearby and Bluetooth transfer rates are too slow.

Send a File via Wi-Fi Direct auf Samsung

Bluetooth transfers files at a fixed, comparatively low speed and require pairing before anything moves. Wi-Fi Direct on Samsung phones creates a direct peer-to-peer connection between two devices without a router, which is why it handles large files or many photos at once much faster.

The feature sits inside the share sheet of the app you are sending from, not in a separate settings menu. Any app that offers a Share option, such as Gallery or My Files, can use it once Wi-Fi Direct is selected as the target.

How to send a file

Open the app that holds the file, for example Gallery, then select the item and tap Open the AppTap on ShareChoose Wi-Fi Direct.

Your phone scans for nearby compatible devices with Wi-Fi Direct active. Tap the target device with Tap on Device you want, then confirm the transfer with Confirm with Share.

The receiving device gets a prompt to accept the incoming file. Once accepted, the transfer starts immediately without any manual pairing step.

If the target device does not appear in the list, Wi-Fi must be turned on on both phones and Wi-Fi Direct visibility should not be blocked by a battery saver or a VPN that restricts local network discovery. For sending to a laptop or a device without Wi-Fi Direct support, a cable or a cloud upload is the more reliable option.

Frequently asked questions

Both devices need Wi-Fi turned on and Wi-Fi Direct discovery enabled. Some power-saving modes or VPN apps block local network scanning, so disable those temporarily and try Choose Wi-Fi Direct again.
