Show or Hide Date and Location in Gallery Photos auf Samsung
The Gallery app can show the capture date and the place name directly in the detail view of a photo or video. This only works when the location was actually saved with the file, which depends on whether location tagging was active in the camera at the time of shooting.
If this toggle stays hidden or greyed out, the app usually has no location data to display, not a broken setting. Turning the option off does not delete any location data from existing files, it only hides the overlay in the Gallery view.
Where to find the setting
Open the Gallery app, then tap Open the menu ➔ Open the Settings ➔ Enable or disable Show location info. Switching this toggle updates the detail view for every photo and video that already has location data attached.
New shots taken after the change are not affected retroactively unless location access for the camera is also enabled. If you want to stop future photos from storing a location at all, check the camera app permissions instead of this Gallery setting, since Gallery only displays what was already recorded.
Turning the overlay off is useful before sharing screenshots of trip photos, since it removes the visible place name without altering the underlying file metadata.
