Xiaomi: Add a Printer via IP Address or Wi-Fi Direct

If your printer does not show up automatically even though your phone and printer share the same Wi-Fi network, MIUI still lets you add it manually. This usually happens with older printers, devices on a different subnet, or printers that only support Wi-Fi Direct instead of standard network discovery. In that case you need to enter the printer's IP address yourself or switch on Wi-Fi Direct printing directly from the printing menu.

Add a Printer via IP Address or Wi-Fi Direct auf Xiaomi

Xiaomi phones normally detect printers through network discovery once both devices join the same Wi-Fi network. This works well with most modern printers that support standard printing protocols over the local network.

Detection fails when the printer sits on a different subnet, when a firewall blocks discovery traffic, or when the printer only offers Wi-Fi Direct instead of joining your home network. In these cases MIUI still lets you add the printer manually through the system printing service.

Open SettingsConnection & sharingPrintingSystem printing serviceMoreAdd printer. From here you have two options: Enable Wi-Fi Direct printing if the printer supports a direct peer-to-peer connection, or Add printer by IP address if you know the printer's network address.

For the IP method, enter the Hostname or IP address shown on the printer's own display or network settings page, then tap Add. The phone attempts to load the correct driver automatically once the connection succeeds.

If the printer still does not respond, double-check that both devices are on the same network segment and that the printer's IP has not changed since you last checked it, since many printers rotate their address after a router reboot.

Frequently asked questions

Check the printer's own display menu under network settings, or print a network configuration page directly from the printer. Most printers list the current IP address there without needing a computer.
