Back Up Phone Data to Google Drive auf Xiaomi
When a Xiaomi phone is reset, lost or replaced, contacts, call history, app data and messages disappear unless a backup already exists somewhere else. MIUI ties this backup function directly to your Google account and stores the data in Google Drive, separate from any local Mi Cloud backup.
Where the backup setting lives
The toggle sits inside the phone's general settings, not inside the Google app itself. Go to Settings ➔ About phone ➔ Back up and restore ➔ Back up my data and enable Turn on backups.
Once active, MIUI backs up data automatically in the background whenever the phone is charging, connected to Wi-Fi and idle. Turning the toggle off stops future backups but does not delete the ones already stored in Drive.
This method covers app data, call logs, contacts, device settings and messages. It does not fully replace a separate photo backup, since photos are only saved through their own backup setting inside the Google Photos app.
If your Google account storage is full, backups fail without a clear warning, so check your Drive quota if backups stop updating. For a complete copy of media files, pair this setting with local storage or an SD card, since cloud storage limits still apply.
