Xiaomi: Set a Custom Image on the Always-on Display

If the pre-installed Always-on Display themes on your Xiaomi phone all look the same, you can swap them for a photo of your own. MIUI lets you pick any image from your gallery instead of the default clock designs. Once applied, you can still adjust the clock position, text color, and how battery or notification icons appear on top of your picture.

Custom Image on Always-on Display auf Xiaomi

The Always-on Display on Xiaomi phones normally shows one of the pre-installed themes: a clock face, a calendar, or animated art. MIUI also lets you replace that theme with your own picture, so the screen shows a photo instead of a system design.

Where to find the custom image option

Open SettingsAlways-on display & Lock screenAlways-on displayCustom image. From there, tap Add from Gallery and choose a photo. Confirm with Apply after adjusting the extra options.

Before applying, MIUI shows a preview screen where you can move the clock, change its color, and decide whether battery percentage or notification icons stay visible on top of the image. These settings only affect the Always-on Display, not your regular lock screen wallpaper.

A custom image can increase power use compared to a simple clock theme, especially with bright colors that trigger more pixels to light up. If battery drain becomes noticeable, switching back to a themed clock design under the same menu is the better option.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, bright or busy images use more power than a simple black-background clock, because more pixels stay lit. Choosing a photo with large dark areas keeps power use closer to the default themes.
