Xiaomi: Merge Duplicate Contacts into One Entry

When contacts get saved by different apps or sync sources, the same person can end up listed twice in your Xiaomi contact list. This duplication clutters your call log, messages, and search results, making it harder to reach the right entry fast. MIUI includes a built-in way to link matching entries back into a single, clean contact.

Merge Duplicate Contacts auf Xiaomi

Duplicate contacts usually appear on Xiaomi phones when the same person gets saved through different sources, such as manual entry, a synced Google account, or an imported SIM card. MIUI treats each source as a separate entry unless you tell it otherwise, so the same name can show up multiple times in your address book, call log, and messages.

This becomes a problem once you search for someone and get several results, or when calls and chats split across two entries instead of one shared history. Cleaning this up does not delete any numbers or messages; it only links the matching contacts together into a single record.

To fix it, open Tap on ContactsTap and hold a ContactSelect a duplicated ContactOpen the MenuTap on Merge. MIUI then combines the numbers, emails, and any saved details from both entries into one contact card.

If contacts keep duplicating right after you merge them, the sync source is likely still creating a fresh copy on every refresh. In that case, check which account is adding the contact before repeating the merge, otherwise the same duplicate can reappear after the next sync.

Frequently asked questions

No. Merging only combines the contact card. Your call log and message threads stay linked to the numbers involved, so nothing gets removed.
