Xiaomi: Turn Notification Badges On or Off for Individual Apps

A red dot keeps sitting above an app icon even after you have opened every message inside it. On Xiaomi phones this badge is a separate switch from the notification itself, so muting an app does not always remove the counter. If the dot never clears, or shows up for an app you barely use, the badge toggle for that specific app is still turned on.

Turn Notification Badges On or Off Per App auf Xiaomi

Notification badges on Xiaomi phones run independently from the notification itself. Even if you swipe away a message or mute an app's alerts, the small dot above the icon can stay visible because it is controlled by a separate switch inside the system settings.

This is why disabling notifications for an app in one place does not always clear the badge somewhere else. The badge system checks each app on its own list, so every app needs its own on/off decision.

To change it, go to Tap on SettingsTap on Notifications & Control centerTap on BadgesEnable or disable the Notification badges of an app. From that list you can turn the dot off for apps that constantly show a counter without a reason, such as background services or rarely used tools.

Turning off a badge does not stop the notification itself from arriving. You still get the alert in the notification shade and on the lock screen, only the icon overlay disappears.

If you want to stop the app from notifying you at all, disable its notifications directly instead of just the badge. That is the better fix when an app is sending alerts you never need, rather than just displaying a persistent counter.

Frequently asked questions

Some apps only clear their counter after you open the specific screen tied to the notification, not just the app itself. If it still does not clear, check Tap on SettingsTap on Notifications & Control centerTap on Badges to confirm the app is not stuck showing a fixed dot instead of a live count.
