Xiaomi: Turn Floating Notifications On or Off

Floating notifications on Xiaomi phones are the small pop-up windows that slide down over your lock screen or whatever app you are using. Each app decides on its own whether it is allowed to interrupt you this way, which is why one app can flood your screen with banners while another stays completely silent even though both send regular notifications.

This behavior is controlled per app inside the notification settings, not through a single global switch. If you only want to silence one noisy app, adjust its floating notification setting instead of turning off notifications for that app entirely, otherwise you lose the notification badge and sound as well.

To change it, go to Tap on Settings ➔ Tap on Notifications & Control center ➔ Tap on Floating notifications ➔ Enable or disable the floating notifications of an app. Find the app in the list and switch the floating notification toggle for it on or off.

If an app still does not show pop-ups after enabling this, check that battery optimization or background activity for that app is not restricted, since MIUI can block the pop-up if the app is not allowed to run in the background.
