Android: Turn Call Forwarding On or Off

If callers keep landing in voicemail instead of reaching you, your carrier likely has call forwarding switched on by default. Android lets you check this per SIM and decide exactly when calls get redirected - always, when busy, when unanswered, or when unreachable. You can also swap voicemail for a custom number, or turn forwarding off completely.

Turn On/Off Call Forwarding auf Android

Carriers activate call forwarding by default so unanswered calls land in voicemail instead of ringing endlessly. This setting lives inside the phone app itself, not in a separate settings menu, and each SIM card manages its own forwarding rules independently.

On a dual-SIM device, changes only apply to the SIM you select first. Forwarding calls on one SIM leaves the other SIM's configuration untouched.

To open the settings, tap PhoneOpen the MenuTap on SettingsTap on Calling accountsChoose a SIM card (Dual SIM)Tap on Call forwarding. Pick one of the available options and confirm with Turn on/off Call forwarding.

Android offers several forwarding conditions: always forward, forward when busy, forward when unanswered, and forward when unreachable, for example when there is no signal or the phone is switched off. Each condition can point to a different number, so urgent calls can still reach voicemail while others go to a colleague or a second phone.

If you only want to silence certain calls rather than redirect them entirely, use Do Not Disturb or per-contact blocking instead. Call forwarding moves the call away completely, it does not just mute it.

Turning forwarding on for every condition can add extra charges if your carrier bills forwarded minutes as outgoing calls, so check your plan before setting it to Always.
