Android: Enable or Disable Caller ID and Spam Protection

If your phone stops flagging suspected robocalls or shows no company name for incoming business calls, the Caller ID and spam feature might be switched off. This function relies on Google comparing incoming numbers against a database of known businesses and reported spam sources. Some people also turn it off deliberately over concerns about call data being sent to Google for analysis.

Turn Caller ID and Spam Protection On or Off auf Android

Caller ID and spam protection is a background function inside the Phone app that checks incoming numbers against a database of known businesses and reported spam sources.

When the option is active, Android shows a business name, category, or a spam warning directly on the incoming call screen. When it is off, calls arrive with only the raw phone number, and no automatic spam label appears for calls or messages.

The feature depends on call data Google evaluates across many devices, which is why some people disable it for privacy reasons rather than because of a malfunction. Turning it off does not remove existing call history entries, it only stops future identification and labeling.

To manage this setting, open PhoneMenuSettingsCaller ID & spamSee caller and spam ID. Toggle the option on to restore identification, or off to stop the Phone app from checking numbers against the database.

If suspicious calls still get through while the feature is enabled, the number may not be flagged yet in Google's database. Reporting a call as spam afterward improves future detection but will not change the result for that specific call.

This setting is separate from call blocking. Disabling Caller ID and spam only stops the labeling and does not automatically block or filter unwanted numbers.
