Android: Turn Keyboard Vibration On or Off

If every letter you type on the on-screen keyboard triggers a distracting buzz, or you get no feedback at all while typing silently, the setting responsible sits inside Gboard, not in your phone's general vibration menu. This tactile response fires the moment a key is tapped and runs independently from ringtone or notification vibration. You can adjust the strength on its own, separate from every other vibration setting on the phone.

Turn Keyboard Vibration On or Off auf Android

Keyboard vibration on Android comes from a setting called Haptic feedback on keypress, built into Gboard, the default on-screen keyboard.

This tactile response fires the instant a finger touches a key, independent from the phone's ringer or notification vibration. Muting general vibration for calls and alerts does not silence the keyboard buzz, because Gboard controls this feedback on its own.

To change it, open SettingsSystemKeyboardOn-screen keyboardGboardPreferences and toggle Haptic feedback on keypress.

Once enabled, a slider usually appears right below the toggle, letting you pick a subtle tap instead of a strong buzz.

Turn the option off if the vibration motor seems to shorten battery life during long typing sessions, or if you share the device and the clicking sensation is unnecessary. Leave it on if you rely on tactile confirmation while typing without looking at the screen, for example in low light.

If you use a third-party keyboard app instead of Gboard, look for the same option inside that app's own settings, since this Menüpfad only applies to Gboard.

Frequently asked questions

Muting ringtone and notification vibration does not affect the keyboard. Gboard controls Haptic feedback on keypress separately, so you need to turn it off inside SettingsSystemKeyboardOn-screen keyboardGboardPreferences.
