Android: Turn Touch Sounds On or Off

Every tap on the screen triggers a click sound, even when you just want to swipe silently through your phone. Android calls this feature Tap & click sounds, and it lives in the general sound settings rather than in Focus mode or notification controls. The tone itself can't be swapped for another sound, only switched on or off.

Turn Touch Sounds On or Off auf Android

Android plays a short click tone every time you tap the display, confirm a dialog, or interact with certain UI elements. This feedback comes from a system-wide toggle called Tap & click sounds, not from a specific app or notification channel.

Because the setting sits in the general sound settings, it stays active even when notifications are muted or Do Not Disturb is on. Turning it off does not touch ringtones, alarms, or media volume, since those are controlled by separate sliders.

To switch the touch feedback on or off, open Tap on SettingsTap on Sound & vibrationEnable or disable Tap & click sounds. The toggle applies immediately across the whole system, including on-screen keyboard taps and navigation gestures on most devices.

The tone itself cannot be customized or replaced with a different sound. If you only want silence in one specific app, check that app's own sound settings instead of relying on this system-wide switch.

If a click still plays after you turn the toggle off, a keyboard app or launcher with its own feedback sound is usually the reason, not a hardware issue with the touchscreen.

Frequently asked questions

Keyboard sounds are often controlled separately inside the keyboard app itself, for example under SettingsSound in Gboard. Disabling Tap & click sounds may not silence the keyboard on every device.
