Android: Set a Night Light Schedule

Manually switching Night Light on every evening gets old fast, especially when you forget and end up staring at a cool-toned screen right before bed. Android can automate the amber tint instead, either on a fixed schedule or tied to your local sunset and sunrise. Getting this right depends on which automatic option you pick and how the start and end times line up with your actual sleep pattern.

Schedule Night Light Automatically auf Android

Bright, blue-heavy light from your display signals your brain to stay alert, even late in the evening. Night Light lowers the blue output and adds an amber tint, which is easier on your eyes in dark rooms and before sleep.

Manual vs automatic

Turning Night Light on and off by hand works, but it means remembering it every day. Android's scheduling option removes that step by tying the tint to either a fixed time window or your local sunset and sunrise.

To set it up, go to Tap on SettingsTap on DisplayTap on Night LightTap on Schedule. From there, pick Turns on at custom time or Turns on from sunset to sunrise, then Set the Start/End time.

The custom time option keeps the same window every day, useful if your routine is stable. The sunset-to-sunrise option shifts with the seasons automatically, since it relies on your device's location data.

Night Light only changes color temperature, not brightness or contrast. If you are trying to dim the screen or switch to a darker interface, Dark theme is the setting to check, not Night Light.

A strong tint can shift how colors look on screen, which matters if you edit photos or color-sensitive documents in the evening. In that case, turn the schedule off temporarily instead of adjusting the intensity slider.

Frequently asked questions

No. The amber tint is a software filter applied to the display output and has no measurable effect on battery use.
