Set Up a VPN Connection auf Android
A Virtual Private Network encrypts the connection between your phone and the internet. Android handles this through its built-in VPN client, which sits in the network stack and tunnels all outgoing traffic once a profile is active.
Setting up a profile requires a working VPN server or a subscription from a provider that supplies a server address or hostname and login credentials. Without these details, the Android VPN client has nothing to connect to.
To add a new profile: Tap on Settings ➔ Tap on Network & internet ➔ Tap on VPN ➔ Tap on Add ➔ Enter the required data of a VPN provider and tap on Save ➔ Select the added VPN.
Once selected, Android builds the tunnel and shows a key icon in the status bar for as long as the connection stays active. If a website or app still shows your real location afterward, the VPN provider's server may be down rather than the phone setup itself.
A VPN can slow down some connections, since traffic takes a longer route and gets encrypted twice. For streaming or gaming where speed matters more than privacy, disabling the VPN temporarily is often the better fix.
