Double Tap to Wake Screen
Reaching for the power button just to check the time or read a notification gets tiring fast. On Oppo phones running ColorOS, a quick double tap on the lock screen can wake the display instead, but this option is not always active out of the box. It sits inside a display menu that most people never open, so the phone keeps needing a button press.
Turn Off Developer Options
Once you have finished testing apps or checking performance settings, Developer options often stay active on your Oppo phone without you noticing. That leaves toggles like USB debugging and mock locations exposed, which is a real risk if someone else picks up your device. Switching the menu off brings the settings list back to its standard, secure state.
Turn Wi-Fi Calling On or Off
If calls keep dropping or the other side sounds broken up whenever you are in a basement, elevator or rural spot, the real problem is usually weak cellular coverage, not a broken phone. Wi-Fi Calling lets your Oppo route voice calls through a connected WiFi network instead of the mobile signal. This only works if your carrier actively supports the feature for your plan.
Turn On/Off USB Debugging
If your Oppo phone stays invisible to a computer running ADB, flashing tools or app debugging software, USB debugging is almost certainly switched off. This option only shows up once Developer options have been unlocked, which is why many people search Settings without ever finding it.
Allow or Deny Picture-in-Picture Per App
If a video collapses into a floating window when you switch away from an app on your Oppo phone, or if that floating window refuses to appear at all, the picture-in-picture permission for that specific app is the cause. This setting is controlled per app, so one app can support it while another stays blocked. Streaming apps, video calls and some browsers behave differently depending on how this permission is set.
Change the Region in Settings
If apps keep showing you content, prices, or app suggestions for the wrong country, the region set on your Oppo phone is likely the cause. ColorOS uses this region value to decide which local content, weather data, and regional services apps display. Changing it in the settings does not lift a Google Play Store restriction or unblock region-locked streaming content.
Turn On/Off Call Forwarding
If calls keep landing in your voicemail or a colleague never gets your missed calls, call forwarding on your Oppo phone might be set to the wrong option. ColorOS separates forwarding into If busy, If unanswered, If not available and Always forward, and each one reacts differently depending on your line status. Picking the wrong mode is the usual reason calls disappear instead of reaching a backup number.
Lock or Unlock Home Screen Layout
If your Oppo home screen suddenly won't let you move icons, delete widgets, or drop folders into a new spot, a system function called Home screen locked is active. This setting freezes the entire layout so nothing on the home screen can be added, removed, or repositioned by accident. It often gets switched on without you noticing, especially after restoring settings or handing the phone to someone else.
Set Up Private DNS
If your Oppo phone still resolves every website through your carrier's servers, your provider can see which domains you visit even when the connection itself is encrypted. Coloros keeps the network operator's DNS active as the default, whether Private DNS looks enabled or not. Pointing the phone to a dedicated private DNS provider hides those lookups from the local network.
Navigation Button Order
On Oppo phones running virtual button navigation, Back and Recent Apps sit on opposite sides by default, which feels backwards if you switched from another brand. Two-button navigation drops the Recent Apps key entirely, so switching order or layout style changes how you reach multitasking and going back.
Turn a SIM Card On or Off
On dual-SIM Oppo phones, calls and data keep arriving on both lines even when you only want one of them active right now. Pulling the SIM tray works, but it is slow and risks bending the tray or losing the tiny card. A hidden switch in the connectivity settings controls each SIM slot on its own, and it is easy to overlook when both cards still show as connected.
Turn Display Animations On or Off
If your Oppo phone shows a noticeable animated slide or fade every time you switch apps or open a settings menu, ColorOS window animations are running in the background. These effects look polished but add a small delay to every screen transition, which becomes obvious on busy days or on older hardware. Turning off the animation effects makes windows appear and close instantly instead of sliding into view.
Turn an Alarm On or Off
If an alarm keeps ringing even though you thought you disabled it, or it stays silent when you actually need it, the toggle next to that alarm entry is probably in the wrong position. On Oppo phones every alarm has its own on/off switch, so one alarm can stay active while others are paused. This mix-up is common when you have several alarms set for different days or routines.
Set Default Home Launcher
If you install a new launcher on your Oppo phone but the home screen keeps reverting to the standard ColorOS interface, the launcher was never set as the active default. Alternative launchers only take over once you point the system default app setting to them. Until then, custom layouts, icon packs and gesture tweaks stay invisible on your home screen.
Empty the Gallery Recycle Bin
Deleting a photo or video on your Oppo phone does not actually remove it from storage right away. Instead it sits in the Gallery trash for 30 days, still taking up space and still recoverable by anyone with access to the phone. If you need those files gone immediately, the trash has to be cleared manually.
Show or Hide Caller ID for Outgoing Calls
If your outgoing calls suddenly show up as 'Unknown caller' instead of your real number, your caller ID has been switched off somewhere in the carrier call settings. On Oppo phones this setting sometimes resets after a system update or a SIM swap, so people you call no longer see who is calling. It only affects how your number appears to others on outbound calls and has no effect on incoming calls.
Restore Deleted Photos and Videos from the Trash
If a photo or video vanishes from your Oppo gallery, it usually lands in the Recently deleted folder before it's gone for good. After 30 days in that folder, Coloros removes the file permanently and no recovery option remains inside the Gallery app.
Clone Apps with App Cloner
Need two WhatsApp, Facebook or Messenger accounts on one Oppo phone but the app only allows a single login? ColorOS lets you install a second, independent copy of many apps so you are not stuck switching accounts all day. This is especially useful on dual-SIM devices where each SIM needs its own messaging identity.
Show Hidden Photos and Videos
If photos or videos you marked as private have vanished from the Oppo gallery, they are not deleted - they sit in a locked area you cannot browse like a normal album. Many users assume the files are gone because the Hidden folder does not show up in Photos, Albums, or Explore. The trick is a gesture on the tab bar, not a menu entry.
Customize Displayed Contacts by Account
If your Oppo phone is signed into several accounts, the Contacts app can turn into a long, mixed list of numbers you never call. Every synced account adds its contacts by default, so work emails, old SIM imports, or a rarely used Google account can bury the people you actually text. Turn Smart Sidebar On or Off
If swiping in from the right edge of the screen does nothing, the Smart Sidebar on your Oppo phone might be switched off. The Smart Sidebar normally holds app shortcuts, quick tools like screenshot capture, and quick apps for fast access. When it stays hidden or pops up by accident during games or reading, the toggle for it usually needs adjusting in the system settings.
Turn Keyboard Vibration On or Off
If typing on your Oppo phone feels silent even though you want tactile feedback, or the opposite happens and every tap buzzes when you want quiet, the keyboard has its own vibration setting separate from your system sound menu. Oppo devices run Google's Gboard by default, and its haptic feedback toggle is often confused with the general vibration options elsewhere in the phone. Even with the toggle switched on, the vibration level itself can still be set to zero, which mutes the effect completely.
Power Button Ends Call Setting
Reaching for the screen to hang up takes an extra step when you are already holding the phone to end a call quickly. On some Oppo phones the power button does nothing during an active call, even though Android supports using it to hang up instantly. This setting sits inside the calling accounts menu and is off by default on many devices, so calls only end via the on-screen button unless you switch it on yourself.
