Oppo: Turn Gesture to Take Photo (Show Palm) On or Off

If your Oppo camera keeps snapping a shot every time you raise an open hand in front of it, the Gesture to take photo (Show Palm) feature is doing exactly what it was built for. It watches the frame for a palm and fires the shutter automatically, which is handy for hands-free selfies but annoying when a hand passes by accident. Whether you want it running or off depends on how you actually use the camera.

Turn Gesture to Take Photo (Show Palm) On or Off auf Oppo

Show Palm is one of the shooting methods built into the ColorOS camera app on Oppo phones. It runs alongside the regular shutter button and lets the camera trigger a photo as soon as it detects an open hand in the frame.

Once enabled, the camera keeps scanning the preview for a palm. If it recognizes one, it starts a short countdown and then captures the shot automatically, which works well for group selfies or timer-style shots without touching the screen.

The downside is that any open hand passing through the frame can set it off, even unintentionally. That leads to random photos when you gesture while filming, cook in front of the phone, or hand the device to someone else.

To turn the gesture on or off, go to Tap on CameraTap on SettingsTap on Shooting methodsEnable or disable Use gestures to take photo.

Leave it off if you rarely use hands-free shots and want to avoid accidental captures. Turn it on only when you actually plan to use the palm trigger, since the constant hand detection adds a small amount of processing load while the camera app is open.

Frequently asked questions

In most cases the palm gesture is meant for selfie shots, so it works best with the front camera active. If it does not react while you are using the rear camera, switch to the front lens first and check the same Shooting methods menu.
