Oppo: Set Up Face Recognition to Unlock Your Phone

If Face unlock is missing from your Oppo lock screen options, it usually means no unlock password has been set yet. ColorOS requires a password or PIN as backup before it lets you register your face for the screen lock, app lock, or private safe. Without that step, the Add face option stays hidden or greyed out.

Set Up Face Recognition Unlock auf Oppo

On most Oppo phones running ColorOS, face recognition works as an alternative to your PIN or pattern, not a replacement for it. The system always needs a fallback password, because face data alone is not considered secure enough for encryption and app protection features like the private safe.

That is why the option to add a face only becomes active once a password already exists. If you skip that step, the menu still shows the option, but tapping it either loops back to a password setup screen or does nothing visible.

To set it up, go to SettingsPassword & biometrics. Set a screen lock password if you have not done so already, then tap Add face and follow the on-screen instructions to scan your face in good lighting.

Once enrolled, face recognition can unlock the screen, confirm app lock access, and open the private safe. In low light or with a covered face, the system falls back to your password automatically, so unlocking never gets blocked completely.

If you share your device with family members or need stronger security for banking apps, a fingerprint or password alone is often the safer choice instead of face recognition.

This happens when no screen lock password is set yet. Open SettingsPassword & biometrics and create a PIN or password first, then the Add face option unlocks.
