The wallpaper system on a Realme phone is more than a background image. It controls how your lock screen, home screen, and Always On Display look and behave every time you pick up the phone.
Realme UI treats the lock screen and home screen as two separate slots. You can assign the same picture to both, or use a different image for each one. This matters if you want a calm, minimal lock screen but a colorful home screen, or the reverse.
Static, live, and AI wallpapers
Three wallpaper types are available on most Realme devices. Static wallpapers are single images from your gallery or the built-in wallpaper collection. Live wallpapers add subtle motion, such as slow-moving abstract shapes or particle effects, and use slightly more battery than a static image. AI-generated wallpapers create unique patterns based on presets, which is useful if you want something that no one else has without editing an image yourself.
Some collections also include depth-effect wallpapers, where the subject of a photo appears to shift position slightly as you tilt the phone or unlock it. This effect only works with images that have a separated foreground and background, either from the built-in gallery or from photos taken in portrait mode.
Lock screen and Always On Display
The lock screen wallpaper can be tied to the Always On Display clock style. Certain AOD styles pull color accents directly from the wallpaper, so the clock and notification icons visually match the background instead of using a fixed color. If you change the wallpaper, the AOD may automatically re-adjust its accent color the next time the screen locks.
Not every AOD style supports color extraction. Simpler digital clock styles usually stay in a single fixed color regardless of the wallpaper behind them.
Home screen behavior and the wallpaper carousel
On the home screen, wallpapers can behave in a few different ways depending on settings. A parallax effect makes the background shift slightly as you swipe between home screen pages, giving a sense of depth. Some Realme phones also offer a wallpaper carousel, which automatically rotates through a set of images on a schedule you choose, such as daily or on every unlock.
If app icons or widgets are hard to read against a busy wallpaper, a subtle overlay or blur option can darken the background behind the icon grid without changing the image itself.
Where wallpaper choices come from
You are not limited to your own photos. Realme UI ships with curated wallpaper packs, and additional packs can be downloaded through the built-in wallpaper store when your device supports it. Photos taken with the camera, screenshots, and images saved from other apps all work as custom wallpaper sources as long as they are stored in your gallery.
Common limitations
Cropping is usually automatic and based on the screen resolution, so very small or low-resolution images can look stretched or pixelated once applied. Live wallpapers and AOD color extraction may also be disabled automatically when battery saver mode is active, since both features draw continuous power in the background.
