Lift to check phone is a motion-based screen wake feature. Android uses the accelerometer to detect when you pick the device up and turns on the display automatically, without you pressing the power button.
The feature is useful when your phone rests flat on a desk or table, since a quick glance can show you notifications, the time, or an incoming call without unlocking anything. Some people disable it because the screen wakes unintentionally while walking, carrying the phone in a bag, or moving it slightly on a nightstand at night.
Where to find the setting
Go to Tap on Settings ➔ Tap on Display ➔ Tap on Lock screen ➔ Tap on Lift to check phone. From there you can enable or disable the feature with a single toggle.
If your phone still does not wake after enabling it, check that battery saver or a background app is not restricting sensor access. Extreme low-power modes on some devices pause motion detection to save battery.
If you only want fewer accidental wake-ups rather than turning the feature off completely, try adjusting how you carry or place the phone first, since the motion sensor reacts to any noticeable lift, not just a deliberate pick-up.
