Each area works independently but affects the others. A phone in a strict power saving mode, for example, will also restrict background refresh for most apps, even if you have not touched app-level permissions.
Power saving modes
Realme UI typically offers several levels of power saving, ranging from a light mode that trims animations and syncing, to a high or ultra mode that limits performance, dims the screen and blocks most background activity. These modes are meant to be switched depending on the situation, not left permanently on the strongest setting, since that also throttles notifications and app updates.
Charging control and battery health
Charging-related options focus on protecting the battery over time rather than just charging speed. Features like optimized night charging slow down the final charging phase when the phone is plugged in for many hours, which reduces the time the battery spends at full charge. Some devices also offer a way to cap the maximum charge level, which is useful if the phone is often left connected to a charger at a desk.
Background app management
Realme UI actively manages which apps can run, wake the device, or use data in the background. This is the area most responsible for unexpected battery drain, since a single misbehaving app kept alive in the background can outweigh anything gained from a power saving mode. The system usually offers both automatic management and a manual list where individual apps can be allowed or restricted.
Practical considerations
Aggressive background restriction can break apps that rely on real-time notifications, such as messaging or delivery tracking tools. If notifications arrive late or not at all, the fix is often to manually allow that specific app to run in the background rather than lowering the overall power saving level. Battery percentage alone is also a poor diagnostic tool. Checking which apps consume the most battery over a full day gives a clearer picture than watching the number drop in real time.
Treat power modes, charging options and background rules as three separate levers. Adjusting only one of them rarely solves a drain issue on its own.
