App Lock
We can add an additional lock to apps on the Xiaomi smartphone to make access even more secure, and we can decide which lock method is selected for apps, either pattern, PIN, or password. If the unlock method is selected, we can add face recognition or fingerprint later. If we synchronize the app lock with the Mi account, the password can be recovered in case it is forgotten.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Apps
- Tap on App lock
- Tap on Turn on
- Choose Not now or Add to add the Mi Account
- Select suggested apps
- Tap on Use App lock
- Swipe upwards to browse all apps
- Enable or disable other apps
Hide apps
If app locking is enabled on the Xiaomi smartphone, we can hide apps on the home screen.
Note: To make the apps visible again, we tap with two fingers on the start screen and pull them apart, in the following window we are asked to enter the password/unlock pattern of the app lock.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Apps
- Tap on App lock
- Tap on Hidden apps
- Hide or unhide an app
Notification badges
If we receive a notification on the Xiaomi smartphone, we will also receive a notification badge. A small red dot will appear above the app icon to alert us to a new notification. We can (de)activate these badge individually for each app.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Notifications
- Tap on Notification badges
- Enable or disable notification badges for an app
Auto arrange icons
If the Xiaomi device is in edit mode on the home screen, we can fill empty cells by shaking the phone, then arrange app icons on the grid and fill empty fields. This feature can be turned on/off.
Note: To open the edit mode in the home screen, tap and hold a free space or empty space.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Home screen
- Enable or disable Shake to fill empty cells
